Overview
A short vignette featuring multimedia artist Mr Gom (Gregor Marvel), shot during a studio session in Berlin, which evolved into a tightly crafted character study — directed, edited, graded, and sound designed in-house.
Production
Working with a single Rotolight Anova II fired through a large diffuser, I used a vintage medium format Pentax lens on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K to draw out texture across both the subject’s face and the detailing in his costume design. The shallow depth of field and the warmth of the older glass gave the footage a painterly quality that suited the character.
Post Production
Shooting in Blackmagic S-Log preserved the full tonal range in the shadow areas, which was critical for the grade. In DaVinci Resolve, I built a deep, saturated scarlet for the facial make-up while keeping the skin tones and fabric details intact — a narrow technical line that required careful secondary grading. The edit was cut tight and rhythmic, and the sound design was built from scratch to give the piece its pulse.
