Before filmmaking, I chased excitement.
For years I worked as an extreme sport instructor. I’d read conditions, people and make split-second decisions with other people’s safety in my hands. Whilst not an obvious route into filmmaking, it taught me something really valuable: how to be present and see the story inside every unfolding moment. That lesson alone would carry me into photography and then onto photojournalism, with work published in The Guardian, National Geographic, Der Spiegel, and The Economist amongst others.
“Photojournalism is storytelling under pressure. You have one frame, one moment, no second take. It forces you to understand structure, tension, and truth.”
Making the difference
When the pandemic came, I had to find a different way to move forward. Now I cradle other peoples’ dreams and use the credits and relationships I’ve built up through my post-production work to enhance other people’s projects and my own scripts and directing gigs.
“Story-telling: It’s been the red-line through everything. Whether reading light, risk or faces, it’s always about sequencing ideas.”
Now I work in editing, colour grading and screenwriting in Berlin, but I’m also available for productions further afield. Currently my post-production work spans short dramas, feature-length films, and other festival-bound work.
So, if you’re a director or producer looking for someone who understands stories from the inside, then let’s talk.
