Overview
Mezzanine continues the world Sheldon Armstrong built in The 3rd. Nino Adãmes walks free from prison the same day his uncle, the head of the Red Dragon family, is found dead. What looks like a suicide isn’t, and Nino’s search for the truth pulls him back into a criminal empire now run by a man he despises. Running parallel to this, two homicide detectives dig into a body count that keeps connecting back to the Dragons, and to a stolen briefcase everyone wants. In a city nothing is quite what it appears to be, will Nino get the closure he seeks?
Production
Mezzanine started life as a single-thread story following Nino’s hunt for his uncle’s killer. When the rough cut came in around 45-50 minutes, and it became clear the stronger commercial path was a feature. With this in mind, Sheldon and the team went back for additional shooting earlier in 2026 to build out a second investigative thread, with post-production paused whilst new material was shot and prepped.
Post Production
My job since the additional shoot has been do a lot of structural work in the edit: finding where each thread earns its way through the corkscrew-like criminal world of The 3rd. I also contributed additional writing during this phase, and I’m now doing the full colour grade. VFX and score are still being finished elsewhere, with the aim of wrapping post by mid-October.
